Inspired by the teachings of His Holiness Swami Chinmayananda, Chinmaya Mission shares the knowledge of universal oneness. Established in 1953, the organization promulgates a doctrine of Vedanta, which encourages individuals to find their spiritual calling and better understand their faith. While the organization is based on Hindu practices, Chinmaya Mission does not focus on converting practitioners of other religions. Instead, it promotes the inner growth of every person. The organization strives to achieve this end through various activities and social projects..
Chinmaya Mission activities include the Bala Vihar, Chinmaya Yuva Kendra, and study groups. The study groups bring community members together to learn scriptural texts. The organization provides each group with a syllabus to help progress discussion and help each member integrate practices of the Vedanta. The mission also offers similar groups called Devi groups, which are geared toward women and involve devotional singing and social activities.
