Named in honor of the founder of the AMA, the Dr. Nathan Davis International Award in Medicine is part of the AMA Foundation Excellence in Medicine Awards program, which recognizes physicians and medical students who embody the medical profession’s most valued qualities. The Nathan Davis Award specifically honors those physicians whose work has made a significant impact on medical care, education, or research in areas outside of the United States.
In addition to the recognition of their peers, Nathan Davis Award winners receive a $2,500 grant for their institution or organization as well as an all-expenses-paid trip to the Excellence in Medicine Awards reception, which is held in conjunction with the AMA’s annual meeting. Previous Excellence in Medicine Award winners include notable recipients such as Regina Benjamin, MD, the 18th surgeon general of the United States.
