Formed in 2009 by Swami Tejomayananda, CORD aims to support local social programs that help enrich and educate populations on the Indian subcontinent. Among the organization’s numerous programs and activities is an initiative to help rural families, and particularly women, generate income and become self-sufficient. CORD takes a flexible approach to this challenge, facilitating vocational training that lets individuals utilize diverse talents working in fabrics, bamboo products, and traditional painting, as well as agriculture, dairy, and food products. CORD supports local entrepreneurs by providing practical resources to assist them with operational management and integration into area markets.
A board-certified radiologist with more than three decades of experience, Dr. AppaRao Mukkamala has served as chairman of the board of managers of the Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan, as well as president of the Associated Radiologists of Flint. In addition to his medical career, Dr. AppaRao Mukkamala has devoted significant time and experience to charitable endeavors in India, supporting such organizations as the Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development (CORD).
